Semtech OPC History
About 20 years ago we started the development of a remote-sensing technique, based on optics and spectroscopy, for monitoring and optimisation of the copper converting in PS converters. Disregarding various types of optical pyrometers this was, to the best of our knowledge, the first and still is the only commercially available technology to provide continuous on-line information on the status of the converting process in a PS converter and the refining process in an anode furnace. Originally developed for conversion of copper in a PS vessel the field of applications of the technology, now known as the Semtech OPC (Optical Production Control) System, is steadily growing. The technical versatility of the technology has been demonstrated at a large number of commercial installations and full-scale tests at production plants.
